Biography
Michael J. “Micky” Grindstaff, of Winter Park, is a partner in the Orlando office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, concentrating his practice on real estate transactions, land use, and development. He has been a long-time supporter of UCF and currently serves as vice chair of the UCF Foundation, Inc., chair of the Foundation Real Estate Committee, and director of the UCF Athletics Association, Inc. He is past president and past chair of the UCF Golden Knights Club, and a member of the UCF President’s Trust Society and the UCF President’s Medallion Society. He is past director and lifetime member of the UCF Alumni Association and a UCF Alumni Association trustee. Grindstaff’s community service is also extensive. He was appointed in 2005 by Senator Mel Martinez to serve as statewide chair of the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission. He is past chair and member of the Orange County Planning and Zoning Commission and past member of the Orange County Board of Zoning Adjustment and the Orange County Nuisance Abatement Board. He is a member of the City of Orlando Permitting Advisory Committee. He is also a past trustee of the Orlando Science Center. He has been recognized in Chambers USA in 2006, 2007, and 2008; Florida Super Lawyers 2007 and 2008; America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (real estate) in 2005, 2006, and 2007; The Best Lawyers in America 2006, 2007, and 2008; Orlando Magazine’s Lawyers of Distinction 2006; Orlando Magazine’s Orlando’s Best Lawyers 2007 and 2008; and Florida Trend’s Legal Elite 2006, 2007, and 2008. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida in 1978 and his J.D., cum laude, from the Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, in 1982.
